International Association for STEM Leaders and STEM-SMART.org join forces in their mission to “Increase the number of U.S students and citizens in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and build a strong and vibrant STEM workforce.”
On June 12, 2014, Millwood Virginia-based, International Association for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Leaders successfully joined forces with STEM-SMART, led by Executive Director & Founder, Dr. Uma G. Gupta.
STEM-SMART is an online education and mentoring community that connects U.S. high school and college students with U.S colleges and universities that offer STEM programs and employers that hire STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics) talent. Their goal is to help students, parents, and potential employees learn about STEM education and degree programs, internships, and careers from trusted experts.
The International Association for STEM Leaders is globally recognized for creating a "golden standard" for STEM excellence in traditional and non-traditional educational settings for all Pre-kindergarten through adult students. In collaboration with global STEM leaders, the IASL will provide guidance for implementing excellent STEM programming and develop a STEM framework that is industry-based and globally recognized. In the coming months, IASL will host regional events to continue its recognition of exceptional leadership, through awards and to focus its outreach activities around regional education and economic development issues.
The IASL is excited over this new partnership and the wonderful opportunity to further benefit the entire STEM community. Other partners of IASL, include the USA Science and Engineering Festival, hosting the world’s largest STEM event which took place in Washington, D.C., April of 2014, STEMconnector, the leading one-stop shop for STEM information, Diversified Education Systems (DES), a leader in “turn key” laboratories including: casework, equipment, curriculum, training and support, Root Cause and Pitsco Education. On the online side of STEM, Learning Blade and Career ATG offer career and STEM awareness, exposure and training to students. Dr. Gupta is the Founder and Executive Director of STEM-SMART, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping professionals and students launch successful careers in science and technology. She is also the President and CEO of PlanetGPA, a college and career counseling company for professionals and students. She is a Professor of Business at the State University of New York at Buffalo State, New York.
She was selected as the Top Ten Influential Women in Technology in Houston, Texas and was nominated for this prestigious award for a second time in 2012 in Rochester, New York. She was recently awarded the prestigious Fulbright Award by the United States government to teach at the University of Malta. She has won numerous other awards for community engagement and leadership contributions.
